Janine Chew is a determined student from Edmonton starting her first year in Science at the University of Alberta. In the past, she has volunteered as a peer tutor to ESL students. as well as being involved in various activities like Interact and Student Senate in high school. She hopes to pursue a career invested either in global or local development, working with marginalized communities and building community.

Janine is passionate about every SDG, however SDG 1 – No Poverty, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals especially stand out. She was first confronted with the complexities of poverty through a DemoCrew program at the Mustard Seed, so she wants to work on a project that will educate and inspire local youth to become engaged with and care about issues related to global justice.

Janine is extremely curious and loves to learn things deeply. She loves meeting new people, and really appreciates deep conversations. She aspires to daily live a meaningful, informed, and sacrificially caring life.
