On May 17th, ACGC officially kicked off our Alberta SDG HUB, a Canada Service Corps project, whose aim is to engage young Albertans in issues that affect our communities through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals. To kick it off in style, we spent the long weekend together in the beautiful landscape of Jasper mountains, connecting, sharing our goals and passions, building community and laying the groundwork for what’s to come.
The participants come from different parts of Alberta from as far as Lethbridge and Peace River; from a wide array of education background- engineering, public policy, nursing, and law just to mention a few; and have had different life trajectories. It was so great to see these diverse personalities coming together to discuss their role in building an Alberta that leaves no one behind at the late bonfire conversations, on dinner tables, workshops, team building activities and the group projects.
Now that the launch has come and gone, the actual work lies ahead of us. The connections, collaborations and ideas will be turned into service projects that these young people are taking back to their communities. With the support and guidance of our valued mentors, they will be planning and implementing projects that are beneficial to their communities, and in line with achievement of our 2030 Global Agenda.
We cannot be any more excited for them and their mentors as they go on this journey throughout Summer. Keep your eyes on our page for more updates and to get inspired.
