Change Your World 2017: Uganda
In July 2017, 5 Alberta youth had the opportunity to travel to Uganda with ACGC to visit partner organizations of the Mennonite Central Committee of Alberta. The two-week visit saw youth travel over 2000 km across the country, learning about the various efforts local organizations do to promote peace and build healthy lives in their regions. Over the course of 2017, the youth shared their experiences, while taking action to improve their communities.
Change Your World 2015: South Africa
The focus of the 2015 tour was on the concepts of health and community development. In South Africa, youth met with staff and volunteers from Keiskamma Canada Foundation and their partner, the Keiskamma Trust, as well as community members who have been impacted by development efforts. Pre-departure training and debriefing ensured that the youth were supported in understanding their experiences, emotionally and intellectually.
Change Your World 2013: Nicaragua
The 2013 Tour was done in partnership with Edmonton-based organization, Change for Children Association, with a focus on the concepts of climate change and climate justice. In they Nicaragua, the group visited the BOSAWAS Biosphere Reserve, and the Miskito villages of San Andres and Pamkawas where Change for Children works. They also had a chance to see FUNARTE’s mural projects with youth in Esteli, and learn about sustainable coffee farming in Matagalpa. Finally, they traveled to Leon to help build and distribute eco-stoves in Leon, and meet with Change for Children local partner Centro Humboldt.
Change Your World 2012: Peru
The 2012 Change Your World tour took 5 Albertan Youth to Peru to visit international development projects by ACGC member Sombrilla International Development Society. The tour travelled with the youth to Sombrilla’s partner community of Yurac Yacu, in the highlands of Peru. The Alberta youth were paired with Peruvian indigenous youth and spent two weeks living, learning, and sharing with each other.
Change Your World 2010: Ethiopia
Alberta-based Canadian Humanitarian hosted this opportunity for the youth to engage with projects on the ground in Ethiopia during July 2010. Students had the opportunity to meet with staff and volunteers as well as community members who have been impacted by the projects.
