Why is the support needed?
With many social issues and threats happening around the world and in Canada, it has become more important than ever to raise awareness and promote action for social change.  Help Marda Loop move online during Covid-19, while continuing to provide documentary films about pertinent social and environmental justice across Alberta, free of charge.

About Us

For the past 15 years, the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival has been bringing documentary films about social and environmental justice issues to Calgary audiences, free of charge. In addition to the main seven-day film festival in November, we host four bimonthly screenings as part of the justREEL series. Our vision is to influence positive behavioral change by sharing films that inspire and engage neighbors to become global citizens. Through visual storytelling, we foster awareness and understanding of injustices suffered around the world, to both our global neighbors and the planet we all call home. We encourage citizens to take steps of care and action that promote justice and provide opportunities to ask topic experts essential questions about what is needed to create a more just and equitable world.

Our films are great learning tools and are actively increasing knowledge in Alberta about the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

About the Campaign

With many social issues and threats happening around the world and in Canada, it has become more important than ever to raise awareness and promote action for social change.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the Marda Loop film festival to move online in 2020.  The challenge of remaining free of charge in the face of increased operation costs has been considerable.

As a not-for-profit organization, we rely heavily on the generosity of donors, sponsors, and grants to keep the festival running. We will use funds raised to cover the costs of the film streaming platform and to help pay for filmmakers screening fees.  Your donation is critical to helping us continue to offer barrier-free access to all who want to learn more about social and environmental justice issues around the world and right here at home.
