The Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC) is seeking a qualified individual to join the organization as a writer and researcher, to collaborate with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) & Youth Lead and our Global Citizenship Education (GCE) Lead to conduct research into the impact of ACGC’s youth-centric programs, focused on the Top 30 under 30, and help conduct research to support determining next steps for GCE in Alberta.
POSITION TITLE: Social Researcher
POSITION TYPE: Canada Summer Jobs (8-week position)
SALARY: $22.25/hour + MERC
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
LOCATION: Edmonton required, from the ACGC offices
LANGUAGE: English mandatory

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Collection
- Work with ACGC staff to identify relevant direction for the project, including ideal data for collection
- Create surveys and data collection tools
- Develop and carry out strategy to engage stakeholders to participate in study
- Conduct interviews with former Top30s
- Gather and sort data in a clear, comprehensive manner.
Writing
- Produce preliminary report of the findings, with a written narrative analysis of the data, also creating tables, graphs and charts, and infographics to share with stakeholders
- Develop other supplementary written materials to support GCE projects
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong written skills and ability to tailor writing to various audiences
- Proven ability to conduct research and write research reports
- Strong ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Experience working or volunteering in a community-based organization which promotes social justice and human rights, ideally within the international development sector
- Ideally possess a post-secondary degree or nearing completion of a first degree.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to work independently, while seeking clarification where needed;
- Experience using MS Word, Google and Adobe applications, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Excel for data; experience using virtual webinar (Zoom), team management tools, and stakeholder meeting technology in bilingual settings;
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Knowledge of, and commitment to, the international development sector in Alberta
