Member Opportunity: Host a public engagement activity for International Development Week 2027

ACGC is excited to celebrate International Development Week (IDW) from February 1-7, 2027! This year, we are continuing to partner with ACGC member organizations and fund up to four public engagement activities. This grant aims to raise awareness of international cooperation, encourage innovative approaches to public engagement, and make global development issues accessible and meaningful to diverse audiences in Alberta.

Key Details 

• Grants are open to ACGC member organizations in good standing
• Grants are for up to $1,500 per in-person activity and $750 per online activity 
• Activities must take place from February 1-7, 2027 and focus on engaging communities in Alberta in support of international cooperation and solidarity in advancing the SDGs, gender equality, and global citizenship
• Eligible activities include, but are not limited to: 
  • Community forums and public dialogues on global development issues
  • Cultural events celebrating global solidarity and diversity
  • Film screenings and facilitated discussions
  • Interactive workshops and educational sessions
  • Youth engagement events and school presentations
  • Storytelling initiatives highlighting local-global connections
  • Black History Month activities with a focus on international cooperation 
  • Digital campaigns and online engagement activities
  • Exhibitions, art installations, or community showcases related to international cooperation

Selection Criteria 

ACGC will prioritize proposals that demonstrate:

• Innovative approaches to public engagement
• Strong community partnerships
• Inclusive participation
• Alignment with the themes of Canada’s international assistance priorities, with a focus on gender equality, poverty reduction, sustainable development, and global citizenship

IDW 2026 Member Events

Global Connections: Local Voices for a Sustainable Future was held with Pamir Canadian Multiculturalism Council and brought together youth, newcomers, and families to explore Canada’s role in the SDGs through cultural storytelling and interactive learning stations focused on climate action and quality education.

Bringing together IDW and Black History Month, ACGC partnered with Canadian Women in Action to encourage Black women entrepreneurs across Alberta to explore how to engage and reach African markets.

University of Alberta International and ACGC brought together students and the public to engage with the SDGs through a fireside chat on accessibility exploring the intersection of inclusive design and international development–looking at what truly accessible engagement can look like.
